该剧时间跨度很大，从1935年一直横跨到2035年，人物在剧中也有时空交错的对话。在日前的新闻发布会上，田沁鑫表示，1935年常书鸿先生在法国留学时，在巴黎塞纳河畔发现了一本法国人伯希和当年拍摄的敦煌文物图册，他作为一个在法国学习西洋画派的华人画家，看到图册中的造像深受震撼，决定回到正在战乱中的敦煌，一头扎进莫高窟。“100年后的2035年，我们还有继续在敦煌耕耘的年轻人，和常先生这样在战乱期间靠一己之力守护敦煌的英雄，跨越百年时空，走在同一个平行线上。我们希望把他们对历史的贡献，把精美璀璨的敦煌艺术，把我们受到的启发和感受，让更多的观众看到。”

The International Conference on Studies of the Community for the Chinese Nation, the parallel session of the Second World Conference of Sinologists, was held on Wednesday at the Palace of China Ethnic Cultures in Beijing.
